New York Jets safety and special teams player Rontez Miles is expected to miss at three months after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.
Miles' injury situation perhaps served as fuel for the Jets to sign former Pittsburgh Steelers safety J.J. Wilcox this week. The Steelers released Wilcox on April 30 after selecting a pair of safeties in the 2018 NFL Draft and signing two more safeties in free agency.
The 29-year-old Miles led the Jets in special-teams tackles last season. He recorded eight tackles while playing in just 11 percent of the defensive snaps.
