Malone had trained locally at Plex with veteran trainer Danny Arnold and Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews.
Malone Jr., was a four-star recruit from Ruston, La., and a two-year starter.
He missed six games last season with a knee injury, starting the first six games at left tackle.
The Texans were awarded quarterback Stephen Morris off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. He's the fourth quarterback on the roster, joining Deshaun Watson, Brandon Weeden and Joe Webb.
