Virginia defensive linemen John Kirven and James Trucilla decided to end their football careers because of undisclosed medical issues, the school announced.
The two players will remain in school to finish coursework to obtain their degrees.
Kirven, a sophomore defensive end, played in 10 games as a true freshman and had one tackle. He missed the Military Bowl loss to Navy because of an undisclosed illness.
Trucilla, a junior defensive tackle, saw action in 13 games the past two seasons and totaled seven tackles.
"It is unfortunate when someone's career ends prematurely," Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall said in a statement. "We appreciate what John and James did as players for the program and they will remain a part of the team and always be members of our football family.
