Billy Brewer, a former Mississippi football player and coach, died on Saturday. He was 83.
Ole Miss released a statement confirming Brewer's death in Memphis following a brief illness. His health had been ailing since suffering a stroke in February.
Brewer posted a 67-56-3 mark while coaching the Rebels from 1983-93, earning SEC Coach of the Year honors in 1986. He owned a 3-2 mark in the postseason, winning the Liberty Bowl twice and the Independence Bowl once.
Brewer played several positions, most notably quarterback, at Ole Miss from 1957-60 under legendary coach Johnny Vaught.
