NBA Playoffs 2018: Sixers open with blowout of Miami Heat as Ben Simmons dominates | Rapid Reaction
New Jersey Local | 5 days ago

PHILADELPHIA -- Joel Embiid rang the ceremonial Liberty Bell, and the Sixers made a whole lot of noise as the new edition of The Process began with a resonance that will echo throughout the NBA: a 130-103 blowout of the Miami Heat in Game 1 of a best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series.

Embiid was a spectator because of a broken orbital bone around his left eye. The All-Star center is hopeful he can return soon, and the Sixers could end this one early with Embiid back in the lineup.

Meanwhile, Embiid acted as cheerleader, exhorting Philly fans to get louder -- and they obliged.

Team elders Ersan Ilyasova, Marco Belinelli and J.J. Redick brought their multiple years of experience to the first edition of what could be a raucous postseason party, and Rookie of the Year shoo-in Ben Simmons finished just one rebound shy of a triple-double in his postseason debut.

It was a fine display of the harmony and success that have enveloped this team over the past two months, and the Heat -- after keeping things tight in the first half -- were helpless to find answers to the array of weapons general manager Bryan Colangelo has assembled.

Redick scored 28 and went 4-of-6 on 3s, showing that his "opportunity is now" mindset is clicking on all cylinders.
