Cavs Legion Gaming Club gets 16th pick in NBA 2K League Draft
Cleveland Plain Dealer | 2 months ago

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cavs Legion GC may not end up with a superstar gamer, but it should be pretty deep when NBA 2K League tips off in May.

That's because the Cavaliers' new esports team was awarded the 16th pick (out of 17) in the first round of the upcoming player draft next month at the draft lottery held Tuesday. The draft will follow a snake order format, so the Cavs Legion will also have the second pick in the second round (19th overall), as well as the No. 53, No. 55, No. 84 and No. 87 picks.

There are six rounds, meaning 102 players will be chosen at the draft, which will be held April 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Mavs Gaming, the Dallas Mavericks affiliate, will pick first.

"We are very much looking forward to putting together the best possible team and organization for the first game in May. We think the NBA 2K League is going to have an incredible first season," said Mavs owner Mark Cuban in a release.

Tryouts began in January with the league holding a combine the following month to whittle the player pool down to 250. Gamers will be treated like players on a traditional sports team, earning salaries and possibly endorsement deals.
