Rangers acquire former high draft choice as insurance at catcher

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Texas Rangers, needing depth at catcher, have acquired Tony Sanchez from Cincinnati.

Sanchez has appeared in 52 major-league games with Pittsburgh and Atlanta. Pittsburgh selected Sanchez, 29, with the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft out of Boston College.

Sanchez was with Louisville, of the Triple-A International League. The Rangers have not yet assigned Sanchez to an affiliate.
